REIMAGINING THE ARCHIVESThis month marks 35 years since Antonio passed away from complications related to AIDS. It is impossible to imagine the life he could have led and the artwork he would have made if his life had not been cut short.
Here at the archives, we devote ourselves to stewarding Antonio and Juan’s legacy, sharing their history of collaboration, and reimagining new ways for the public to experience their work. As Fendi’s Spring Summer 2022 collection is unveiled around the globe, it has been a tremendous privilege to watch A & J’s drawings presented at a larger than life scale in window displays and wrapped around building facades. Here in New York, the exterior of Fendi’s flagship 57th street store is illuminated by three levels of screens featuring one of their Art Deco inspired textile designs. Meanwhile, in Miami, Antonio and Juan’s pop-art inspired drawings have taken over a lane way in the Design District, exploding in color across the store and Fendi Café. We hope you’ll have a chance to visit a Fendi store near you to experience the magic of this incredible collaboration first hand.
